What you should know about our cross-country ski school - FAQ

Which technique is better for beginners – classic or skating?

The classic technique is particularly suitable for beginners because it's easier to learn. The tracks on the cross-country ski trail offer safety and stability, especially at the beginning, and support you in your learning process. Skating is more athletic and requires a bit more balance and stamina, and it's helpful if you've already tried classic skiing a few times before.

You don't need to be in top shape. Cross-country skiing is easy on the joints and can be done at any pace. If you're not feeling particularly fit, we recommend starting with Nordic cruising—it's perfect for beginners, too.

You'll usually have the basics down after just one or two days. A multi-day course will allow you to quickly improve your technique, allowing you to run independently.

Depending on the weather and snow conditions, our courses take place on the “Loipe an der Halde” directly in the center of Oberstdorf, or we use the cross-country ski trails in the Oberstdorf Nordic Center.

With the snow-covered trails at the Nordic Center, we have fairly safe conditions between January and March. Whether we can start skiing in December depends largely on the temperature.

Toboggans can only be rented in our shop at the valley station.

For the cross-country skiing course, you'll need the appropriate equipment (skis, boots, and poles) for your technique. You should wear lightweight functional clothing, along with some thin gloves, a hat, and sunglasses. Just imagine you're going for a run in the winter 😉
